Mimi Kakushi is a Dubai restaurant channelling the jazz age of 1920s Osaka, blending Japanese tradition with Western influence across food, drink and design. For Kikuchi, the restaurant's cocktail menu, each of its drinks is paired with a jazz record, honouring Kikuchi Shigeya, the musician widely credited with introducing American jazz to Japan. Commissioned by A-M Studioworks, I designed a vinyl sleeve for every cocktail on the menu, drawing on Japanese vinyl sleeve design, typography and the Mavo movement. Alongside the physical menu, the sleeves sit in a wooden box beside an vintage record player, where guests can play the record while they drink the paired cocktail.
